How Beaver County, UT Increased Tourism, Lodging Tax, and Pageviews through Captivating Stargazing Branding

Rugged Skies Branding on Beaver County Utah Stargazing photo

The Challenge

Located on Utah’s western edge, hours from the state’s metro areas, rural Beaver County experiences challenges when it comes to attracting visitors.

Secluded with a breathtaking landscape, most of Beaver’s tourism revolves around outdoor recreation, but they are always seeking new ways to bring visitors to the county.

The Solution

To establish Beaver County as a premier stargazing destination, our team developed the Rugged Skies brand, a 1 to 5-year marketing plan, built a microsite, and managed photography, social media, ad campaigns, and PR.

We also developed an industry guide, itineraries, held night sky photography workshops, and created branded bandanas for all who signed a responsible stargazing pledge.

The Results

Beaver County’s Rugged Skies garnered over 20,000 page views in its five months of paid promotion. Additionally, the county continues to see a steady uptick in tourism and lodging tax since the launch of the program.

The Challenge

Several counties in Colorado known for their night skies and incredible stargazing opportunities sought to increase visitors through astrotourism, but with so many moving pieces, they didn’t know where to start.

The Solution

Colorado Stargazing is a cooperative project between several counties. Our role is to manage financial contributions and develop and execute creative and marketing strategies, making communication between all participating counties key to the continued success of this project.

The program draws visitors out of busy metro areas and large mountain resorts and into rural Colorado, where visitors not only take in the wonders of Colorado’s dark skies but also book overnight stays and engage in daytime activities.

Colorado Protect the Night Campaign Stargazing Photo

The Challenge

Dark Sky Colorado tasked us to develop a responsible stargazing campaign in partnership with Colorado Stargazing and produce all associated pieces of collateral. The challenge was assembling all the important information presented to us by a passionate and involved organization into concise and digestible public-facing material.

The Solution

We created the Colorado Stargazing Protect the Night campaign, encouraging and showing people how to protect their dark skies by scaling back on light pollution both at home and while camping. We created posters, social media stills, postcards, a trifold, and a designation toolkit, among other collateral.
